Low Friction Coatings

MoST™ coating
Molybdenum disulphide based coatings have been used by NASA for many years. The MoST ™ coating is a "state of the art" PVD solid lubricant low friction coating based on molybdenum disulphide that offers high resistance to adhesive and abrasive wear and a load bearing limit in excess of 3GPa. In addition the MoST ™ coating offers an ultra low coefficient of friction (0.01 - 0.06), much lower than that of Teflon™ or graphite with a hardness of 1500-2000 Hv and an extremely low specific wear rate, 4x10-17m^3/Nm.

MoST™ coating - Ideal for the forming industry and dry machining
The amazing combination of high hardness, low friction and high wear resistance makes the MoST ™ coating ideal for the metal forming industry eliminating the need for spray lubricants and post forming operations. The MoST ™ coating also offers increased galling resistance, substantially reducing downtime, while MoST™ coated tools produce parts with a superior finish.

MoST ™ is recommended for dry forming carbon steels, alloy steels, stainless steels, aluminum alloys, and copper alloys. MoST ™ has also shown outstanding results in dry machining applications when used in conjunction with a hard base layer such as TiN.
